HOUSTON — The Houston Airport System (HAS) has selected the Evolution 360 cameras by Oncam Grandeye to monitor William P. Hobby and Bush Intercontinental Airports.

Houston-based systems integrator Preferred Technologies, which offers structured cabling, electronic security, and wireless networking solutions, will install the new equipment, which will be integrated into the Honeywell MaxPro System.

The integrator will deploy the cameras at security check points, gate areas, large, general areas such as lobbies and waiting lounges, and in hallways. Because of the superior visuals obtained with 360-degree technology, only one Oncam Grandeye camera is needed to easily cover multiple views, which would generally require multiple fixed cameras.

One of the reasons HAS officials selected OnCam Grandeye camera was to enhance cost-effectiveness. The manufacturer claims that one Evolution 360 camera can cover multiple areas, which would generally require multiple fixed cameras. Thus, the airport system plans to save funds by reducing the amount of cameras installed throughout the vicinity.

Additionally, HAS personnel were impressed with the solution’s technology, as it will allow managers to review any event and go inside an image to find a person or an incident because the camera gives them 24/7/365 situational awareness, according to an Oncam Grandeye press release.

“By deploying hundreds of 360 cameras, HAS will achieve maximized situational awareness, superior wide-area coverage with reduced blind spots, and a valuable and efficient forensic tool for critical investigations,” says Shaun Castillo, president of Preferred Technologies.
