The Need to Protect Our Ports

As major points of entry in the United States, securing our seaports is of the highest level of importance. The impact of a security event at any major seaport could be devastating economically and socially to our Country. Preventing attacks and threats is crucial to ensuring continued operation of vital economic inlets and the protection of the employees, suppliers, contractors, and safety personnel that work there day-in and day-out.

Our nation’s seaports encompass large geographical areas with perimeters that can’t be secured in the same way as traditional land‑based environments. Effective seaport security requires the ability to secure and manage a wide array of employees, crew members, visitors, equipment, and material while providing on‑going information to multiple stakeholders and inter-agency groups. In this highly regulated and demanding environment—whether it is the dock itself, the roads within the seaport, utilities, bridges and overpasses, inter-modal connection points, or the various public and private facilities—seaports present a unique complexity that only the highest level of security solutions can meet.
