In 1999, the first steps of a remarkable journey began when Charlie and Trisha decided to merge their first company, Integrated Telecommunications, Inc. with others, creating Netversant Solutions. The low-volage technology company quickly spread across the United States. After five years learning how a large, national business operates, their hearts began to long for a return to small business, where intimate relationships with employees and customers mattered. Charlie and Trisha sought the creative spark of Shaun, their son, to establish a new direction for their journey.

In 2005, after honorably serving five years in the United States Army, Shaun embraced the opportunity to join his parents in establishing Preferred Technologies, Inc. in Houston, Texas. The adventure began in May when Trisha laid down the foundation of the Texas corporation. Shaun jumped in eagerly, spending countless hours refurbishing an old, worn-out trailer, transforming it into their first office. Days were spent reviving that trailer, while nights were dedicated to learning—the alchemy of design, estimating, selling, and installing cabling systems from his father, who guided him with wisdom steeped in experience and passion for the low voltage industry.
By September 1, Shaun’s father officially joined the ranks, and together they witnessed the fruits of their labor. Pref-Tech generated its first income by installing a data and voice cabling system at a Houston office building. This success was just the beginning, as Pref-Tech blossomed from a small cabling company into a thriving security integrator, executing projects that ranged from small data cabling systems to complex, integrated security solutions in mission-critical environments—portable classrooms to bustling international airports.

The journey has been marked by joyous occasions, painful heartbreaks, incredible challenges, and wonderful wins. As years progressed, the family grew—more hands to high-five in the good times and more hands to lift one another in the bad. The family bonds have become strong and resilient, thanks to our commitments to one another and steadfast pursuit of becoming the most well-respected security integrator on the planet. We’ve become much more than just a company; we are a family of empowered people focused on loving each other, loving our customers, and producing excellent work. Here, we flourish together.

Where we are today

Though we are 20 years into our journey, though we’ve earned recognition as a top integrator in the nation, though we’ve outpaced industry growth rates for several years straight, we are far from our aspirational goal of being the most well-respected security integrator on the planet.  We aren’t where we want to be.  We do, however, know who we are.  We have a strong identity.  

We are fervently private.  Instead of focusing on short-term financial gains to satisfy outside investors, our single owner is building a company to last 150 years.  The long-term, multi-generational focus allows us to invest in decades-long relationships with employees and customers.
We are purpose driven.  Every decision we make, word we say, and action we take achieves our purpose—Within a family culture, nurture and inspire our employees to creatively resolve customer pain using the highest level of craftsmanship and service.  Our singular purpose unifies what we do and how we do it.

We are self-performers.  We do the work ourselves so we can control quality, respond quickly, and maintain consistency.  Our Professional, capable, experienced, well-trained staff will deliver what you need when you need it.

Where the industry is taking us

We believe security integrators fail enterprise customers far too often.

The need to satisfy investors with recurring monthly revenue and the challenges of hiring, developing, and retaining employees have caused security integrators to underserve enterprise customers or completely avoid them. We believe enterprise customers need a security integrator to walk alongside them through their many challenges: to help them make sound buying decisions, to help them mitigate threats before catastrophe strikes, to help them balance security with convenience.

As Pref-Tech moves into the next decade of service, we will narrow our focus on enterprise customers. We will strengthen relationships with clients, listen to them carefully, and respond to what we hear. We will build a world-class Human Resources program to find, hire, develop, and retain talented people to deliver complex, sophisticated security services. We will operate profitably and manage cash well to ensure we can execute large projects while continuously growing our operational capacity. We will challenge our processes and methods to find optimal ways to serve our clients. Most importantly, we will NOT compromise our identity. We will invest in the family, nurture and inspire each other, creatively resolve customer pain, build with craftsmanship, and serve fanatically. We will live our PGRIT core values.
